A little about us …

Our staff of highly skilled and dedicated psychologists and counselors have served the Norristown and Ambler areas for over thirty years.

Our goal is to promote growth and wellness for the individual, as well as harmonious relationships for couples and families.

We believe in the wisdom of each individual and their ability to heal and grow when given proper nurturing.

Our approach is specific to each client and our therapists are well trained in a variety of treatment modalities.

What is counseling all about? …

What happens when someone I trust – a loved one, a friend, a doctor or a boss suggests that I need counseling?

One of the first things I might tell myself is, “I don’t have that serious a problem.” I might also say that I’m not that weak and that I can do this alone. “I can manage my own life.”

What is there about going to a counselor and saying, “I’m not happy with how this part of my life is going?” For many people this implies a lack of something, an inability to handle his/her own life. Counseling is seen as surrender, an admission of sickness, a defeat – a negative experience.

Counseling is NOT about someone telling you what to do, correcting you or telling you you’re wrong or bad. It’s about looking at what you’re feeling, doing, thinking; learning new skills for dealing with people and life and then deciding for yourself how you want to use your new knowledge.

Most of us learned to deal with the challenges of life from the people around us as we grew up. We learned attitudes and how to view a situation both from the way we saw others deal with life and the modifications we have added over the years. We learned how to make relationships from the relationships we experienced and we all do what we feel is the best to make ourselves feel worthwhile and happy.

What if I am limiting myself because I don’t understand that other ways are possible for me? What if the way I choose to go after what I want isn’t working and I don’t know why?

What if I haven’t learned all the skills I need about relating to others, being good to myself, and getting ahead in life?

When I want to learn to do car repairs, to do calligraphy, or to sail a boat, I feel free to take a course, become a student, ask questions, try out new behaviors and learn new skills. We view counseling as a learning experience and firmly believe that each individual has the answers within himself/herself. We see our job as helping each person to find those answers.

I have over 30 years of clinical experience helping individuals and families to resolve lingering negative thoughts, feelings, hurts and self-concepts and to move ahead in a healthier and clearer way. I am so appreciative of the trust that I have received over the years from my clients. I look on therapy as a shared experience which honors each participant.

My goal is to help clients be free to make choices that recognize the dignity of themselves and others. My expertise lies in working with individuals burdened by anxiety, depression and stress. I trained at the National Marriage Guidance Counsel in England and consider working with relationship issues (including parenting) an area in which I posses refined skills. I have trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn and work in the area of mindfulness as a treatment for anxiety, depression and Adult ADD. I believe that an atmosphere of acceptance and safety is important for those who want to explore life’s difficulties.

It is a pleasure to introduce myself and my practice and share a little about my philosophy.  For over 30 years my co-director and I have been blessed to be able to serve the needs of our community in the Norristown area and now also in the Ambler area.

Over the years I have found my passion to be in helping individuals free themselves from the chains of depression, anxiety and low self esteem. This is achieved through developing a clearer understanding of who they are, physically, mentally and spiritually. I have tremendous joy in this work and am thrilled to see my clients inner beauty emerge as we work together.

I began working in the field of mental health while I was in college working on a degree in social work. I worked with young people who suffered with significant MH/MR issues. In the mid-eighties, I entered into the field of Addictions, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. While obtaining my Masters Degree in Counseling. I began focusing more on prevention efforts. I have spent many years working in schools with young people aiding then in developing their decision-making-skills. We know that prevention through education WORKS. My goal now is to help our clients achieve the success in life that they long for, by helping them define their goals, develop a plan, and provide the support they need to get there!
